Kari Raurela joined PNG Biomass in 2016 and is our head of human resources. She holds a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the International Training Institute in Lae and previously worked with a law firm in the accounts department. She also enjoyed a short career in hockey, travelling the world to represent PNG and picking up many valuable experiences.
Kari is excited to be part of PNG’s first clean energy project that will benefit the locals and provide employment for many Papua New Guinean citizens. She says PNG Biomass is a good place for women to work, “the job can be challenging at times which is a good thing,” say Kari, “the work environment is friendly, I feel a real sense of gender equality and learn from working with expatriates and locals with great minds. Every day is an inspiration, helping me to mature in my area of expertise”.
“The most important thing we can do to empower women,” says Kari, “is to go out and educate young women, elderly women, young mothers by sharing our experiences and encourage them of their own potential in becoming role models, good leaders and citizens to their communities, societies, province and our country”.
“Everyday I try to live up to my own expectations,” she continues, “by being a good citizen, a leader, never limiting my standards, and taking challenges to move forward in life, I hope to empower other women inside and outside of the workplace.”
“All you strong Papua New Guinean ladies,” says Kari, “never stop believing in yourself, always stand tall for what you believe in, take courage and move forward, have faith and you’ll achieve your dreams. Take critique and see it as an opportunity to aim high in your career. Never limit yourself and keep your head high. Press for progress and remember the sky is the limit.”
