22 February 2016.  Over the past week, Michael Jones and Michelle Clark from the ERIAS Group visited the PNG Biomass operations for a field visit to speak to landowners and get a first hand look at the pilot plantations.  The ERIAS Group have been engaged to undertake an independent Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the project.

The ESIA team spoke to landowners,  many whom have been working on the project for several years, to gain an understanding of the project’s impact and potential benefits to communities within the Markham Valley in the Morobe Province, PNG.  The ESIA process will involve a number of studies being coordinated by ERIAS Group.  These studies will involve the engagement of consultants with expertise in various environmental disciplines and will take several months.

Michael Henson, PNG Biomass Project Director, who accompanied the ESIA delegation stated “the project partner’s are committed to delivering an environmentally and socially sustainable energy development, and the independent ESIA will enable us to validate our approach as being best practice and will help us achieve the accreditation standards necessary for attracting like-minded investors”.
